Artist's Description

"Gogo" means grandmother in Chichewa, one the local languages in the villages of Malawi, Africa. The HIV/AIDS pandemic has left over one million orphans in Malawi--one of the poorest countries in the world. Forty-two percent of the children under 5 years are malnourished. I am one of many who supports the Gogo Grandmothers Ministry who links the elderly with the young orphans, thus, connecting the most needy in the village. Each Gogo takes in at least 2-3 orphaned children to feed, clothe, educate and love with the help of the Gogo Grandmothers Ministry. Funds raised provide them with maize seed, fertilizer, mosquito nets, blankets, preschools/feeding programs for the younger children and school supplies for the older orphans. The Gogos meet monthly where they pray/read scripture together, are encouraged spiritually and learn about nutrition, hygiene and child development. Any sale here will go 100% to the Gogos, a very special group of women.

About Marilyn Borne

Marilyn Borne

Since I was a kid, I loved to draw and paint. As an adult, my career has been in graphics, illustration, and publishing, using computers and technology, but creating with traditional medium was always the "go to." My painting style is a mix of abstract and realism using acrylics. Some of my photographic work were created from microscopic images, experimentation is always an adventure. I've always admired John Singer Sargent and Andrew Wyeth's works, also the Dutch Masters. Both digital and traditional mediums have their place in expressing beauty and in communicating our hearts. I currently teach art at a local school and enjoy passing on a love for all things beautiful as expressed in various mediums. I believe art is therapeutic to both...
